DELTA UNDER ATTACK

Wilderness Committee Educational Report Vol.08 - No.5 - Spring 1989.

Editorial

This newspaper is produced for you by the Western Canada Wilderness Committee to inform you and to enlist your support.

This moment is a turning point in the history of Delta. The Delta Council is deciding the future cost of living and quality of life of every resident and taxpayer.

We urge you to participate in these decisions by attending public hearings and also expressing your concern to your elected Council. Unless you do so, the only arguments the Council hears are from developers who propose to exploit Delta farmlands at your expense.

Lands adjoining the foreshore of Boundary Bay are of international importance to conservationists all over the world because of their role in the migration of birds - the Pacific flyway.

Arguments in favour of the preservation of these lands were forcefully presented to Delta Council by many environmental protection groups. These have been totally ignored. Similar appeals to Premier Bill Vander Zalm by international conservation groups have also been ignored. The only part of the Pacific flyway not protected by a government is Boundary Bay.

We appeal to the residents and taxpayers of Delta to cooperate in trying to persuade the Council and the Provincial Government to protect unique Boundary Bay Forever.
