Taxes to Skyrocket
Over the next five years Delta Council's planned spending program will grow to $108.5 million. Council has the authority to borrow this money without any referendum or agreement by the Delta taxpayers. When the Council borrows $100 million at 10% interest over 20 years ($200 million), the actual cost with interest to the Delta taxpayer will be $300 million.
Most of this capital expenditure is for roads, drainage, water and sewers. Most of this is for future development rather than upgrading existing services. So the taxpayer is subsidizing most of the operating costs for the development. There is an assumption that developers will pick up most of the cost of major developments. This is a myth. The taxpayer share of the spending is 86.6% while the developers share is 5.3%.
Delta taxes are going to skyrocket. You do not have to put up with this. Exercise your democratic right by attending public hearings, and join the swelling numbers of residents who are fed up and demand change. Reject the South Delta Plan, which will herald in large spending of your tax dollars.
