Three million Americans join forces for South Moresby

Charlene Gray-McClain, a spokesperson for the U.S. National Parks and Conservation Association, pledged the support of over three million Americans to save South Moresby. "We are prepared to pursue all avenues available to us in the protection of this vital resource," she said in her speech at the Canada Place Pavilion rally, the end of the line for the South Moresby Caravan.

The Association is spearheading an International Coalition to Save South Moresby. The Coalition, formed just a few months ago, has grown fast and now includes the National Audubon Society, Monitor, the National Wildlife Federation, the Humane Society of the U.S.A., the Living Ocean Society, Greenpeace U.S.A., the American Cetacean Society, Ikare Wildlife Organization, Sierra Club, Defenders of Wildlife and the Fund for Animals, whose combined membership totals over three million.

"We strongly urge the B.C. Government to do what is honorable," she told the rally, saying that the world community will hold the B.C. Government accountable if the clear-cutting of this "globally significant resource" continues.

Representatives of the National Committee to Save South Moresby will consult with representatives of this International Coalition at a meeting scheduled for the end of April. The World Community is uniting to save, in Ms. Gray-McClain's words, "one of the richest and most sparkling jewels of the world."
