Support from Canada and the world

Tiger Mountain Group:
"The Tiger Mountain Group of companies which has marketing all around the world in Hong Kong,
Riyadh, Basel, London and San Francisco, has been looking into the possibility of marketing high
quality 'Adventure Tourism' in the South Moresby area... Our experience, especially in India and
Nepal, where we operate the internationally known Tiger Tops Jungle Lodge in the Royal Chitwan
Park, is that top quality natural environment and wildlife experience, especially when combined
with a cultural dimension can yield substantial local employment, as well as foreign exchange
earnings that are attractive to government... I understand however that it is proposed to continue
to clear-fell timber in the South Moresby Area. I write now to stress that were this to be the
course chosen, our group would be unlikely to pursue our market research of this area."

International Trust for Nature Conservation:
"Congratulations on the South Moresby Caravan and its splendid work raising nationwide awareness
of the threat to some of the last remaining temperate rainforest on earth. Hope you will stress
the need for, British Columbia to invest in its scenic tourist values...."
Montreal, CANADA
Pierre Trudeau, former Prime Minister:
"I wish all possible success to the effort in support of the South Moresby Wilderness."
Washington, DC, U.S.A.
Charlene Gray-McClain, spokesperson for the National Parks and Conservation Association:
"I pledge the support of the National Parks and Conservation Association and the International
Coalition to Save South Moresby (representing over 3 million Americans.) We are prepared to pursue
all avenues available to us in the protection of this vital resource, and this is what binds us
in our efforts. We are one with you in this fight."

The Anglican Church of Canada, The Most Reverend Douglas Hambridge, The Right Reverend John Hannen,
The Most Reverend Edward W. Scott, Primate:
"We support the Haida's position that the forests of Duu Guusd and South Moresby should be
maintained in their natural state in perpetuity.
We deeply regret the action taken by the provincial government in October to allow logging to
continue on Lyell Island. While our church does not condone the breaking of laws, we recognize
the fact that the Haida people had no choice but to defend their ancestral home which the
provincial government has never bought, conquered, nor asked the Haida people to surrender."
New York, U.S.A.
The Cousteau Society, International Office:
"The Cousteau Society believes that the human and natural resources of British Columbia's Queen
Charlotte Islands, specifically South Moresby, are sufficiently valuable to warrant preservation
and management in such a way that the natural qualities of these regions will be protected for
future generations....
The Society has learned through past experiences that shortsighted profit motivated development
strategies lead to the decline of natural ecosystems and those resources upon which life
depends....
It is not too late to re-evaluate and find solutions with fewer negative environmental
consequences. The Cousteau Society urges everyone to take the perspective that we are trustees
for our children's lives and resources and ensure that the decisions made today are in our
children's best interest."

Brian Johnston, Earthlife Foundation:
"I hasten to send this message on my return from Cameroun, West Africa, where I 'was visiting a
coastal rainforest area, Korup, which the Cameroun Government is planning to make into a National
Park.
Having just previously visited South Moresby, I was greatly struck by the contrast between the
Cameroun Government's concern for a unique species-rich area of rainforest and the recent posture
of the B.C. Government in allowing logging to continue in the equally important natural area of
South Moresby.
The average per capita income of B.C. is about 40 times that of the Cameroun, which also has a
substantial forest industry and a fast dwindling forest resource-base. Cameroun also has far less
opportunity to create employment and prosperity through tourism in Korup than B.C. does in South
Moresby....
Cameroun has willingly accepted Canadian Federal aid to help save the most precious enclaves of
its natural heritage. Can B.C.'s Government not do the same if it feels unable itself to afford
the modest investment required?"

John Turner, Liberal Leader, speaking to the House of Commons:
"Environmentalists, not just in Canada, but everywhere in the world, are watching how our country
responds to this growing crisis. It is totally unacceptable that we have not been able to work out
a solution. I cannot believe that this country will throw it (South Moresby) away.
I once again urge the Prime Minister and the federal Government to take action, to talk to the
people of British Columbia and their government in order to prevent the irreversible loss of a
priceless national treasure."
