In 1992, a Manitoba government report stated that logging in Nopiming Provincial Park should be phased out by the year 2000, and in all other parks following that. Sadly, the government is ignoring this recommendation. In the Spring of 2007 the Manitoba government released the Duck Mountain Park Management Plan which expressly permits logging and mining within park boundaries.
Manitoba’s Provincial Parks: Now and for the Future
Manitoba’s provincial parks are an environmental legacy worth protecting. If you love our parks take a moment to write to Premier Gary Doer. Tell him whether you support the full protection of Manitoba’s existing provincial parks, including an end to clearcut logging and all intensive industrial operations within their boundaries. Tell him whether you support continuing to create new provincial parks that prohibit all large-scale industrial activity such as logging, mining, and hydro development.
