As industrial developments in Manitoba quickly advance north, we have a time-limited opportunity to safeguard our wilderness lands and waters for future generations. In an era when we should be increasing protection of our natural landscapes, we are in danger of losing ground. On December 14th, 2006, six protected areas in Manitoba's spectacular north are expiring, leaving them vulnerable to intensive industrial activities such as logging and mining. It's critical the Manitoba government immediately extend protection of these areas. This will allow time for the province to fulfill its obligation to work with local communities and the public toward permanent protection from ecologically destructive industrial developments.
