From coast to coast, the woodland caribou is a majestic symbol of Canada's vast wilderness. As an indicator of boreal forest health, the presence of woodland caribou throughout the nation is a testament to our country's incredible opportunity for wilderness conservation. Unfortunately, in Manitoba, its estimated that we've lost 50% of our woodland caribou population since the 1950s largely due to human-caused impacts such as logging, mining, and hydro projects. The federal government has recognized woodland caribou as a species at risk in Manitoba and the provincial Endangered Species Advisory Committee has repeatedly recommended listing the woodland caribou under the Manitoba Endangered Species Act. Now is the time to stop the decline of Manitoba's caribou by honouring your commitment to adopt the recommendations of your Endangered Species Advisory Committee.
