Non-Timber Forest Products
The proximity of Blue Mountain to major population centres combined with the ease of access make Blue Mountain an ideal candidate for non-timber forest products. Further, the Blue Mountain’s predominantly west and south facing slopes make it ideal habitat for a wide range of non-timber forest products. For example10,000 species of mushrooms exist in southwestern BC of which at least 2,000 species are edible and could be used more extensively as foodstuffs and possible for commercial gain. Regardless, a detailed study of non-timber forest products should be conducted at Blue Mountain prior to any land-use decision making.
