Upper Cheakamus
KWÁYATSUT (28,247 hectares)
Kwáyatsut, pronounced kwhy a sote, is located in the upper Cheakamus valley. The translation for this area is "to train oneself spiritually, as rites of passage for adolescence, undergoing intense rites and rituals to achieve higher levels of understanding." The exact size of this Wild Spirit Place is yet to be determined but this area contains another of the rare old growth stands in the Cheakamus River valley drainage. Those cultural and wilderness values mark the great importance to the Squamish Nation.
Brohm Ridge
NCH’KAY
(5,736 hectares - Sensitive area)Nch'kay, pronounced ninch kaeye, is located along Brohm Ridge. The translation of this area is "Dirty Place" since the sacred mountain was the area the Squamish people tied their canoes to during the great floods. The flood waters scoured the area around the mountain, leaving the earth with a dirt appearance.
After the flood the Squamish people began to re settle their territory with the help of the Thunderbird. This area is used for hunting, trapping, berry picking and many other cultural activities.
Upper Soo
SU7 (11,375 hectares - Sensitive area)

Su7, pronounced Soo, is located in the upper Soo valley. The translation of the area refers to "the abundant but sensitive nature of the resources in the valley." This is an important area for hunting, travel and trade for the Squamish and Mt. Currie peoples.
The Upper Soo has several areas of old growth forest that are important for biodiversity and cultural and heritage values. Compromising these factors would harm the ecosystem in this area.
