Take Action to Make the Vancouver Island Conservation Vision a Reality
The Western Canada Wilderness Committee firmly believes that an educated and active citizenry exerts the ultimate lobby pressure on government. It is fundamental that thousands of citizens, including YOU, get involved in conservation efforts. Political decision makers are concerned about the opinions of the electorate who can keep them in power or throw them out. Corporations are concerned about their bottom line, whether or not consumers like yourself will buy their products. By speaking up to the political decision makers and making ethical consumption choices, you can ensure that new protected areas and sustainable jobs become a reality.
1.
Write a letter to the BC government about whether or not you would like them to break the arbitrary, non-scientific 13% ceiling on protection for Vancouver Island and initiate a second Protected Areas Strategy here. Name some of the areas you’d like to see protected.
Write and Phone:
Premier Gordon Campbell
Legislative Buildings, Victoria, BC V8V 1X4
Phone: (250) 387-1715
Fax: (250) 387-0087
And your own Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), or provincial political representative who you can find at: www.legis.gov.bc.ca/mla/3-1-1.htm or by calling Enquiry BC at: (250) 387-6121 in Victoria; (604) 660-2421 in Vancouver; or 1-800-663-7867 elsewhere in BC.
