Help to protect the wild salmon

There are several simple things you can do to stop environmentally unsustainable salmon farms:

  • When you go into a restaurant or grocery store don’t buy farmed salmon. Many stores sell farmed salmon, as “fresh Atlantic” or ”fresh farmed“ - don’t be fooled by these misleading labels! If you are not sure make sure to ask.
  • The second most effective step you can take is to write a letter to tell elected representatives your concerns about the dangers of open-net cage fish farms. Ask the provincial government to close all open-net cage salmon farms in British Columbia because of the environmental dangers fish farms pose to wild salmon and aquatic ecosystems.
  • A simple typed or handwritten letter carries enormous weight and is considered to represent 500 like-minded citizens. If you have concerns about salmon farms please write to the following elected officials and tell them that you want all open-net cage fish farms removed from the coast of British Columbia. If you do not have time to write a letter, take five minutes to contact one of these elected officials by phone, fax or email.
