Provincial governments hoping to increase production of salmon sales and boost economy do not understand the dangers in using "fish farms" to accomplish this. A case study of the Broughton Archipelago as well as in-depth research, all discussed in this report, point to reasons to not utilize fish farms. Doing so would escalate diseases, pollution, death of salmon, and loss of other wild fish as well as be detrimental to scenery, taxpayers, First Nations' rights, and access to locals.

How to halt the expansion of eco-damiging netcage salmon farm feedlots and help save B.C.'s wild salmon

What you can do

  • Ask if the salmon you are buying is wild caught or farm-raised. Don't buy it if if is farmed salmon that was produced in convential open-ocean netpens.
  • Write, phone or fax the Premier. Tell him how important you believe it is to protect wild salmon and how you feel about the threat posed by the netcage salmon farming industry.
  • Support organizations such as Western Canada Wilderness Commitee, the Steelhead Society, the David Suzuki Foundation, the Wild Salmon Foundation and other environment groups in their efforts to protect salmon and trout.
