WCWC 2001 Provincial Candidate Survey

We are tallying and summarizing the results as we receive them. We have currently tallied the following responses which include all completed surveys as received by Friday May 11th:

BC Liberal Party 0/79 (0%) *
Green Party of BC 42/72 (58%)
BC New Democratic Party 21/79 (27%) *
BC Unity Party 16/58 (28%)
BC Marijuana Party 25/77 (32%)

The Western Canada Wilderness Committee is conducting a survey of all 2001 provincial MLA candidates for the BC Liberals, NDP, Green Party, Unity, and Marijuana party.

The survey consists of 13 yes/no questions covering a range of environmental issues that BC residents have consistently expressed concern for, including the protection of watersheds, the Annual Allowable Cut, endangered species, raw log exports, greenhouse gases, protection the the Stoltmann/Elaho wilderness area and fish farming. This survey is being undertaken to determine, and make public, the position of candidates on environmental issues of interest to our members. The Western Canada Wilderness Committee is Canada's largest membership-based citizen-funded wilderness preservation organization with 27,000 active members. We work for the preservation of Canadian and international wilderness through research and grassroots education. WCWC works on the ground to achieve ecologically sustainable communities and works only through lawful means.
