BCās Registered Professional Foresters have an obligation to manage BCās public forest lands for the public good not just for the narrow interests of the big timber companies
WCWC says Foresterās Code of Ethics demands Foresters speak out against the proposed new Forest Land Reserve Legislation!
"We are appealing to the more progressive Foresters who know that more corporate control over BCās publicly owned forests only benefits the corporations," said Joe Foy, Western Canada Wilderness Committee Director and Forest Campaigner.
Foy and a handful of WCWC activists are handing out hundreds of information sheets titled The Great Land Swindle to the Registered Professional Foresters who are attending their Annual General Meeting in Kamloops today. The information sheet explains why Forest Minister Gordon Wilsonās proposed legislation that purportedly will protect BCās "working forest" actually is a backdoor way to privatize BC public forest. According to WCWC this legislation, if passed, would give forest companies new rights to massive compensation for anything that lowers their AAC in the future.
"The big question is whether or not BCās Professional Foresters are brave enough to speak the truth which might offend their corporate and or government Forest Service masters."
"We hope that they are!" concluded Foy.
