The Afraiding Race: nature edition

Friday, October 30, 2020 5:30pm - 9:00pm
Mount Pleasant

What a scary time to be alive! We need to have a little fun around here, in a COVID- and nature-safe way!

There’s a kid-friendly round at 5:30 pm and an adults-only one at 7:30. Each will take around an hour and a half. Since it's dark consider bringing something reflective or a flashlight.

Sign your team up for an evening of Halloween, wildlife and climate themed shenanigans. We will send you on an endangered rat race around Mount Pleasant to find clues and race the other teams to the finish line. The winning team will get their photo taken as champions and then posted to Wilderness Committee’s Instagram story, Twitter and Facebook. Of course, costumes are highly encouraged, especially if they are nature themed, too.

Start at Jonathan Rogers Park, accessible by skytrain (Main street station) and bus (3, 8, 19, 9, 99). There’s also parking around Jonathan Rogers Park for both cars and bikes. The scavenger hunt will take place around Mount Pleasant; we estimate for an hour and 30 minutes. Here is the boundary of the scavenger hunt, so you know what you’re in for!

Map of Mount Pleasant with boundary around false creek in the north, main street to kingsway in the east, 12th ave in the south, and willow street in the west.

Your team can have up to six people who are within your bubble. There may be up to seven teams. We’ll send teams off in different directions so as to avoid a crowd. Make sure to bring masks for moments you might need to go inside… Dress for the cold/rain since we live in a rainforest after all 🌧️

Fill out the RSVP form below by October 26.
