Carmanah - Canadian rainforest

Monday, May 15, 1989

This is a 1989 Wilderness Committee education report that looked at logging company MacMillan Bloedel's offer to set aside some small reserves in the Carmanah Valley to protect some of the groves of giant Sitka spruce trees. The Wilderness Committee rejected this offer, and instead continued to campaign for the preservation of the entire valley.

The lower Carmanah Valley was protected in 1990 within the Carmanah Pacific Provincial Park - then in 1994 the entire valley was protected in an enlarged park now named the Carmanah Walbran Provincial Park. See our History and Achievements page.
