2002 09 29 TV News Story - Mining Industry puts pressure on South Chilcotin Mountains Park

Sunday, September 29, 2002

This is a short 2002 TV news story about a Wilderness Committee protest in front of the offices of the Mining Association of BC. The Mining association was pushing the BC government to severely downsize the South Chilcotin Mountains Provincial Park to accomodate mining exploration. Eventually the BC government did downsize the protected area, though not as much as the Mining Association had hoped. Today (2009) the downsizing is not yet official, because government to government talks about the region have not yet been completed with the St at imc, in whose territory lies the South Chilcotin Mountains.
