The Wilderness Committee has given biologist Mike Pearson the Eugene Rogers Award for his work protecting the habitat of the endangered Nooksack dace. The tiny freshwater fish exists in only four waterways in Canada, and one of them is the Burnaby's Brunette River.

Pearson said he was thrilled to receive the award and will use the attached $1,000 prize money to restore a creek on his Agassiz property. He also said the Brunette population of the Nooksack dace was the healthiest and has several thousand fish.
