WINNIPEG - The Wilderness Committee congratulates the Honourable Gord Mackintosh on his appointment to the important and demanding position of Conservation Minister.

"We are pleased that, after some delay, this vital post is once again occupied," said Eric Reder, Campaign Director for the Wilderness Committee.

“We're looking forward to an opportunity to meet with Mr. Mackintosh in the near future, and hear his ideas on how to move forward with protecting more of Manitoba's wild and natural areas," said Reder.

“With the sensible realignment of the Water Stewardship branch back into the Conservation branch, Mr. Mackintosh will be in a better position to take action to safeguard our natural lake, river and wetland ecosystems from the land-based developments that are putting them at risk.

“We've waited through an election campaign and then several months without an active Conservation Minister,” said Reder. “Now it's time to get to work. Mr. Mackintosh will need to be working overtime in the next few weeks to familiarize himself with the current issues at Conservation.”
