TV News Story ‑ Proposed logging in spotted owl habitat near Chilliwack Lake

Wednesday, December 21, 2011

This is a TV news report about a visit by Member of Parliament Peter Julian to a forested area near Chilliwack Lake BC. The forest had originally been protected in 2006 as habitat for the spotted owl, one of the most endangered species in Canada. However, in 2011 the BC government granted permission to a logging company to log 13 cutblocks within the former protected area. Local people and the Wilderness Committee are joining together with the MP to work to protect this forest. The logging company could be ready to start felling trees in the spring of 2012.
