Why is the Wilderness Committee taking people on this walk?
It’s a crucial moment in the campaign and we wanted to walk and share together, as a way to thank you face to face.

Who’s invited?
We are inviting people who who are Cedar, Pine and Oak Wilderness Defenders to demonstrate just one of the many ways your gifts are making a difference. You may also be a Wilderness Guardian. Whatever the case may be, your gifts make our work possible - 93 per cent of our funding comes from people like you and I. Thank you!

What will the day look like?

  • Meet at Horizons at 10am.
  • It is the highest point, everything else is downhill for those who plan to walk.
  • The trails go gently downhill from Horizons where from, we’ll visit the two bore drill sites.
  • Hike to second drill bore site is on a rougher trail, then joins up with Gnome's home trail (a good not steep trail) to a lookout viewpoint.
  • Trail goes down steep stairs to Harry Jerome Sports Centre and then an easy walk along and above the Inlet to Westridge tanker terminal.
  • Gentle uphill through the Westridge neighbourhood to pipeline rupture site.
  • Steeper uphill through more neighbourhood and uphill through the forest back on Gnome's Home & Ridgeview trails back to Horizons.
  • The whole thing is estimated to take about three hours, so if you’d like, pack a lunch. We’ll be finished by about 1:30pm.

This is a loop, so we'd meet, start and end at Horizons?
Yes, that's right. People can get food and drink, washrooms and nice view of Burrard Inlet.

Do I have to walk the whole way?
No. You could have tea with one of our staff members at Horizons and then we’ll meet hikers down at the Westridge tanker terminal. Please let us know your preference so that we can call ahead to make adequate arrangements- email Michelle Johnson to RSVP.

You can also choose which leg of the journey you’d like to attend. How much or how little you participate is entirely up to you!

People would leave their cars here?
There is free parking at Horizons restaurant.

I can only make it for part of the day, should I still come?
Absolutely! We’ve broken the day up so that folks can come and go as they see fit.
