Celebrate our coast this weekend: Sprawlapalooza concert Sat to save the Juan de Fuca Trail

Wednesday, April 27, 2011

This weekend we have a fantastic opportunity to stand up as a community and show our opposition to the destruction of the Juan de Fuca forestlands from urban sprawl.

Bring your friends and family to Sprawlapalooza, and show the members of the Capital Regional District (CRD) Board and the Provincial Government that we want these lands protected from developments, like the Marine Trail Holdings project.

Rather than writing a letter or making a phone call, this week we are asking you to come and show your love for the coast and our communities at Sprawlapalooza from 3pm-9pm in Centennial Square.

This concert and rally will be a fun and empowering way to celebrate the coast and its amazing communities by hearing from respected activitists and members of our community, as well as top notch local musicians such as Kuba Oms and the Velvet Revolution, Rocky Mountain Rebel Music and Everybody Left. These and many more artists have been incredibly supportive of our work to protect these lands over the past few months and we eagerly anticipate hearing their music and messages.

Please come and join us at 3pm to participate in the rally before Kuba Oms and the Velvet Revolution take the stage at 4pm for an amazing afternoon of dancing, powerful speeches and public support!

We can send a strong message to the CRD's Land Use Committee A and the provincial government that we oppose development in the Juan de Fuca forestlands and let them know we support expanding the provincial park before irreversible damage is done to this precious place.

Over the past few months, members of the CRD Board have become increasingly supportive of our work to protect these lands and two weeks ago moved a landmark decision asking the provincial government to change the voting structure so the whole CRD board could vote on development in the Juan de Fuca forestlands. However, we must continue to ask the members of Land Use Committee A to protect these lands and reject the Marine Trail Holdings Project.

Join us April 30 from 3:00-9:00pm at Centennial Square to celebrate our wild coast and to make a strong stand to protect our region's forests.

For the coast,
