The Wilderness Committee has an exciting opportunity for a passionate, experienced canvass fundraiser and outreach organizer to become part of our dynamic and diverse team across the country coordinating our door and phone canvass team. This position is based in-person in our Vancouver office and is a permanent, full-time position based on a 32-hour, 4-day work week.
The Wilderness Committee is a grassroots, people powered wilderness preservation group with a history of 45 years on the front lines of environmental battles across Canada, with offices in Vancouver, Victoria, Winnipeg and Toronto. Recognizing that enshrining Indigenous rights and title is fundamental to addressing the biodiversity and climate crises, we have helped protect millions of hectares of wilderness, defended the most at-risk species in government offices and court rooms, and worked tirelessly to fight irresponsible fossil fuel development wreaking havoc on the climate as we advocate for a just transition to a post-carbon society.
The Canvass Director is responsible for hiring, building, ccoordinating and strengthening our phone and door canvass teams out of Vancouver. This includes promotion, hiring and training of canvassers, planning and scheduling canvass turf rotation, map preparation and distribution, weekly coordination of briefings on campaigns, callbacks and tracking, and processing team cashouts for payroll.
The successful candidate will have experience as a canvasser, knowledge of Salesforce CRM, and an understanding of non-profit fundraising strategies to improve donor acquisition, retention and increase.
As the Wilderness Committee Canvass Director, it is your responsibility to:
- Support the organization's fundraising and outreach goals through the Vancouver canvass team
- Build strong relationships with our donors and canvassers
- Recruit, hire and train canvassers for door-to-door and phone canvassing
- Produce and assign canvass maps, monitor canvass progress, coordinate call backs and organize canvass trips to communities outside the lower mainland
- Monitor canvass progress and perform cash out and payroll duties
- Develop policies and procedures with the fundraising team to support the canvass teams across the country
You will have:
- Demonstrated understanding of non-profit fundraising strategies and challenges, including previous canvass experience
- At least 2 years’ experience supervising others with the ability to problem solve and maintain positive team spirit
- Previous use of Salesforce CRM fundraising and donor management software
- Demonstrated human resources skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication, strong relationship building skills
- Impressive organization skills with an eye for details
- 2 years’ experience in administrative and financial tasks such as budgeting, tracking, reporting and working with cash
- Strong computer skills including Windows and Microsoft Office
- Thorough geographical knowledge of Vancouver
- A current driver’s license

Salary: $63,112 annually

Conditions of employment: This is a full-time, permanent unionized position with BCGEU Local 2003 and thus all pay and benefits are determined by the Collective Agreement. The Wilderness Committee has a 32-hour, 4-day work week.
