Hottest. Earliest. Driest. Deadliest. There’s no question — we have gone from climate change to climate emergency. Oil, gas and coal simply don’t have a place in a future where kids and elders can play outside all summer without fear of heat domes, and snowpacks hold steady through the winter.

Canada has the potential to build a real clean energy sector. Greenwashing doesn’t have to be part of business as usual. The tools and technology exist. The public is ready. Nature can’t wait. So what’s missing? Political courage. Governments may have set climate targets like net-zero emissions by 2050, yet they’re taking step after step in the wrong direction. Still, when we speak up together, we can make progress for our communities, our families and our daily lives.

At the Wilderness Committee, our climate campaigns are rooted in climate justice. That means we can’t leave people, including migrants, workers and those living in poverty behind as we shift to climate solutions. But we must stop fossil fuel expansion. No more pipelines, no more fracking. We’re working to protect the ecosystems that naturally store carbon like peat bogs and old-growth forests, and pushing governments to invest in responsible renewables and local climate solutions.
