For more than 45 years, with the support of our donors, the Wilderness Committee has accomplished so much for nature and wildlife through education and activism. Our campaigns have pressed policymakers across Canada to pass stronger legislation to protect endangered species and the rivers, oceans and forests they live in. We’ve shut down pipelines and mines, and banned harmful pesticides. And, we’ve educated people on pressing issues with tried-and-true methods like going door-to-door, producing popular education materials and doing public presentations.
Encouragingly, we’ve had several wins in the courts directing the federal government to do better for at-risk species. But our work is far from over. The story behind the name
Trailbuilding and restoration have been central to keeping logging at bay since 1980. Every trail we repair pushes back against destruction. Scientists and activists use these paths to build compelling research and stories that rally the public to preserve these places. That’s why we call you Trailblazers — because you make this work possible.
