The Wilderness Committee is 100 per cent funded by individuals who believe in the inherent value of wilderness and in a more just, life-sustaining world. We exist because you choose to join with us. Every donation is an act of hope, solidarity, and determination — and we honour that deeply. When you give, we promise to defend the wild on your behalf with courage, integrity and relentless commitment. Win or lose, we will never stop fighting for the lands, waters, species, and communities that make this place home.

Who we are

Legally registered as the Western Canada Wilderness Committee, we have been a BC society and federal charity since 1980. Our charitable mission is to protect life-giving biological diversity through collaborative grassroots mobilization that transforms systems. Our work is rooted in justice — standing up for ecosystems and communities disproportionately impacted by environmental harm, and advancing solutions that honour Indigenous sovereignty and local leadership.

Leadership and accountability

Our organization is guided by a nine-member Board of Directors and an Executive Director, and governed by our constitution and bylaws. This ensures strong oversight, ethical decision-making, and accountability to both our mission and the people who power it — you.

Each year, we produce an Annual Report that shows — in real stories, real victories, and real numbers — what your generosity has achieved. At the close of every fiscal year (April 30), our finances undergo an independent audit so you can trust that your donations are managed responsibly, efficiently and transparently.
