Defending Wildlife
Protect what is left
For millions of years, ecosystems across Canada have teemed with life. As humans entered the picture, many species came to hold deep spiritual, cultural and practical significance to Indigenous people. But now, hundreds of species are at risk, from the spotted owl to iconic caribou. Reckless logging, mining, and oil and gas development combined with urban sprawl, poisonous pesticide use and climate change have wiped out massive areas of critical habitat. Without strong regulations, industry will keep taking until nothing’s left.
A 2020 study found that more than 5,000 wildlife species are at-risk in Canada. We stand to lose not just species, but the wonder they bring. Future generations might not get to experience the thrill of spotting a killer whale pod hunting off the Pacific coast, or step into an ancient forest alive with birdsong.
Wildlife needs a voice that governments will listen to. Across Canada, we’re campaigning for stronger laws that put wildlife before profit, and respect Indigenous rights and title. Together with our supporters, we defend precious habitat for at-risk species from reckless industrial destruction, sending a clear message that wildlife are essential, not expendable.
