B.C. Supreme Court to hear court challenge over water use by fracking operations

VANCOUVER — A lawsuit targeting water withdrawals by oil and gas companies in north-eastern British Columbia will be heard by the B.C. Supreme Court on Monday.

Ecojustice lawyers, representing Sierra Club BC and the Wilderness Committee, will argue that the B.C. Oil and Gas Commission’s practice of repeatedly granting short-term water approvals to oil and gas companies is unlawful.

Prior to the hearing, the groups will hold a press briefing to describe the lawsuit and answer questions.

The hearing, which will be heard by Justice Bruce Cohen, begins at 10 a.m. in courtroom 30.
