Proposed tar sands pipeline would require substantial investment from Manitobans

WINNIPEG – Environmental groups will hold a news conference on Thursday morning to release information regarding energy needs associated with the proposed TransCanada Energy East pipeline across Manitoba. The figures are the result of a detailed analysis of the 30,000-page project application filed with the National Energy Board, which includes plans for nine new pump stations in the province.

WHAT: TransCanada’s pipeline proposal involves an extensive network of pumping stations and new transmission lines, raising concerns over public hydropower use by TransCanada Pipelines. This news conference will address some key questions surrounding the Energy East proposal and what it means for the province’s public utility, Manitoba Hydro, and the Manitoba government.
