Some call it a climate crime, others don't like the fact it runs near an elementary school.

Despite varying motives, several hundred protesters gathered at Scott Road Skytrain Station Sunday afternoon to protest the South Fraser Perimeter road.

At times the protest seemed more like a festival.

That said, some marched from the skytrain station to the South Fraser Perimeter road's preload site, to dig up some of the sand.

They call it an act of civil disobedience, but the goal was clear.

They want to bring attention to what they call "climate crimes" perpetrated by the Province.

Ben West from the Wilderness Committee says he came to show support, and believes the Province should be spending cash of transit, not freeways,"the building of this freeway, the South Fraser Perimeter road, would be a drastic step in the wrong direction...so folks in the community of Bridgeview here in Surrey have basically said enough is enough...we don't want this freeway going right next to this elementary school."

The protest was organized by The Council of Canadians and the group Gateway Sucks.
