Statement on the government’s approval of Woodfibre LNG

Friday, March 18, 2016

The Wilderness Committee is very disappointed with the government’s approval of Woodfibre LNG in Howe Sound.

“This decision is being made over widespread opposition heard loud and clear at town halls packed over capacity in three Howe Sound communities just weeks ago,” said Climate Campaigner Peter McCartney.

Conditions for the project are inadequate to protect herring and the climate. “This project is right in the middle of herring spawning grounds and puts the entire marine ecosystem of Howe Sound at risk,” said McCartney. “It also takes us a step back in our commitments to fight climate change.

“Howe Sound deserves better.”
