Sunrise Lake Trail Trip
Join the Wilderness Committee and Ontario Old Growth Conservation Volunteers for canoe camping and trail maintenance work in unprotected old growth forests near Temagami, Ontario, traditional territories of the Teme-Augama Anishnabai.
This is a guided canoe trip with camping on crown land and daily group work to maintain old growth trails. Participants are responsible for their own gear and food.
TRIP DATE: AUGUST 21-24
Itinerary and packing
Friday:
- 2 p.m. Arrive at the boat launch (parking available). Meet the group and guides!
- 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Canoe to campsites (approximately 6–10 km with roughly 400 metre portages)
- 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Camp set-up.
- 6:30 p.m. onward: Dinner/campfire/free time.
Saturday and Sunday:
- 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Spend approximately 5–7 hours trailbuilding and clearing in unprotected old-growth sites as well as maintenance of portage trails and campsites.
- Downtime will offer participants opportunities for swimming, hiking, old-growth appreciation, relaxing and enjoying group campfires.
Monday:
- 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Breakfast and camp takedown.
- 2 p.m. Return to public boat launch.
Participants are responsible for arranging their own:
- Canoe
- Tent
- Camping gear
- Food
- Water filter
- Transportation to and from Temagami
We can help arrange car-pooling, canoe sharing and rentals.
