Wilderness Committee to Host Anti-Coal Forum on Clean Air Day

Wednesday, June 02, 2010

What: A public forum entitled Coal: BC's Dirty Secret focused on BC's quietly growing coal mining and exports. As new mines are proposed on Vancouver Island and elsewhere in BC, the Wilderness Committee, Sierra Club BC, and Coal Watch Comox Valley are taking part in this forum to raise awareness of these new coal mines and opposition to them.

Who:
·    Arthur Caldicott, energy researcher
·    Sara Cox from the Sierra Club of BC
·    John Synder from Coal Watch Comox Valley
·    Ben West from the Wilderness Committee

When: 7pm - 9pm Wednesday June 2nd 2010

Where: Heritage Hall, 3102 Main Street

Why: Clean Air Day was proclaimed by the Government of Canada in 1999 to increase public awareness and action. Coal is the dirtiest fossil fuel, with many neagtive health impacts associated with its use. The forum will also explore the hypocrisy of being seen as a leader on addressing climate change while promoting increased exports of the world’s dirtiest fossil fuel.
