Tea light candles in the dark.

The Wilderness Committee offers our deep solidarity and care to those affected by the heartbreaking events that took place at the Lapu Lapu Festival in Vancouver over the weekend.

We recognize the deep wounds this tragedy will leave in the community. Our hearts are with the victims and their family members, and all those affected including volunteers, vendors, first responders and attendees. We mourn alongside you and honour the strength and vibrant spirit of the Filipino community as they continue to lead efforts to care for those affected, even during this extremely difficult time.

In the months ahead, we all have a role to play in ensuring the Filipino community — and all those affected — have the space and support they need to process and begin healing from this horrific, senseless event.

Community festivals, events and care spaces are where the most powerful organizing efforts happen — from climate to social justice. Community is what keeps us going every day. We encourage you to reach out and ask for support as we all continue to process this tragedy. You are not alone!
