Stoltmann Wilderness - Save the entire 260,000 hectares

Wednesday, May 15, 1996

This is a 1996 Wilderness Committee education report about the campaign to preserve the Stoltmann Wilderness. The report explains how the BC government set up a parks planning process for the Lower Mainland which had an upper-limit on how much wilderness could be protected. This pitted conservation groups against each other as some suggested that wilderness areas be sacrificed to meet the cap on protection. The Wilderness Committee continued to fight to see the entire Stoltmann Wilderness area protected.

Later that year - 1996 - the Clendenning Valley was protected within the Clendinning Provincial Park. In 1997 the Upper Lillooet Valley was protected within the Upper Lillooet Provincial Park. In 2007 the Upper Elaho Valley was protected within the Upper Elaho Conservancy and the Sims Creek Valley was protected within the Sims Creek Valley Wildland. See our History and Achievements page.
