Building Community in Canada

Tired of the state of the world and not sure how to change it? Start here.
Finding community is hard. Joining it is harder. Building one is perhaps the hardest.
I’m Isabel Siu-Zmuidzinas, the Climate Campaigner at Wilderness Committee and I’m meeting with those who want to find, join or build a community.. Those who actually create change. Unlike what digital algorithms promise us: this kind of network and people powered advocacy takes years to build, if not decades. But all it requires is for someone to start.
Through our outreach efforts, I’ve called or spoken to dozens of people in 2026 who are interested in organising in their neighbourhoods. Writing letters, spreading the word amongst friends and family, planning events — even meeting their local city council members or MLAs. If you’re here, you’re interested:
- Email me at: isabel@wildernesscommittee.org.OR
- Book an online meeting with me through this link.
- If you want to talk on the phone or meet person-to-person, I’m here, we’d just need to coordinate it through one of the two mentioned avenues.
Want to talk but not sure how I can help? Here are the areas I’m actively working on right now:
- Fighting fracking, liquified natural gas (LNG) and oil pipeline expansion across the country.
- Connecting climate to the issues that matter to you most – whether that’s housing, the cost-of-living, healthcare and so on.
