United We Stand: Mega-rally take action centre

The BC government has promised to protect old-growth forests, and it’s a commitment they are failing to honour. We’ve joined more than 160 other organizations in calling on the province to keep its promise, and are planning a massive march and rally on Feb.25 to encourage them to do so.

1. This is huge! A new declaration signed by 160+ organizations across the labour, health, education, and environmental sectors, in solidarity with First Nations, sends a unified call on the @BCNDP under @Dave_Eby to accelerate action on #OldGrowth: bit.ly/old-growth-declaration
2. Can add these additionally as a thread:
   1. This is a movement for all people, which is reflected in the list of signatories including @UBCIC, @bcgeu, @ClimateLC & many more. Together, they are calling on the province to implement a paradigm-shift in forest stewardship to safeguard biodiversity.
   2. And most importantly, the signatories are calling on the province to align all forest management with the principles of free, prior and informed consent for First Nations. The declaration draws on @UBCIC 2022-32, affirmed by Chiefs in June 2022.
   3. The most at-risk #OldGrowth forests are still being clearcut while B.C. stalls on implementing emergency logging bans aka deferrals. The deferrals are the bare minimum and most urgent recommendation of the 2020 OGSR. #bcpoli
