Courier - Islander

This is an ad placed in the Courier-Islander, a Vancouver Island local newspaper, by local citizens opposed to the BC government's program of allowing companies to dam and divert wild rivers for the purposes of private hydro-power production. This in effect privatizes publically owned wild rivers.

Plutonic Power is a company that dams and diverts rivers to produce private hydro power. The company has recently damed and diverted rivers in the Toba Inlet area. It wants to dam and divert additional rivers in the Toba area, as well as dam and divert multiple rivers in the Bute Inlet area. The Wilderness Committee is opposed to the BC government's river privatization program.
